Version: (using KDE 4.3.3) OS: Linux Installed from: Fedora RPMs I have a few files with an extension .m in a directory. Dolphin thinks that some are Tex files, others are Matlab file, others are matlab script files. Bonkers. In particular the TeX association is weird, because .m is not mentioned as a possible extension. 'file *' on the commandline show that they are all ascii files.

I can confirm this problem.
Still there in 4.4.0. Why is nobody fixing this bug or even looking into it? Unfortunately typical of recent KDE bug handling.
> Why is nobody fixing this bug or even looking into it? Well, it could be possible that there are several thousands of other bugs and that there are only limited resources to fix them. It might also be possible that other bugs have a higher priority. Considering that most people do all those fixes in their spare time, I'd expect a little bit more politeness and respect...
I have a similar problem: I added a file association for *.yuv (uncompressed video). However, Dolphin and Konqueror says it is plain text. kmimetypefinder gives the correct assosiation. I was thinking, that there might be a problem since plain text has an association "*,v" (yes, comma not a dot). However, I can't remove this assosiation wit kcontrol. After restarting kcontrol, it is back again... I'm using KDE 4.4.1 on OpenSuSE 11.2
Still there in 4.4.2.
