Description Marc van der Sluys 2009-11-27 19:25:32 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.1)
Compiler: Gcc 4.3.4
OS: Linux
Installed from: Gentoo Packages

I use Ctrl-Tab for "Walk Through Desktops" (WTDs, as opposed to "Walk Through Desktop List", which always goes to the next desktop in the grid, WTDs uses the order of last used desktops) a lot.

The behaviour of WTDs is correct (it switches to the expected desktop), but the display of the default (no desktop effects) vertical pop-up desktop list has a small bug. This list is shown when I press Ctrl-Tab and release the Tab key, and is sorted according to desktop number rather than history. This means that rather than running down the list, the highlighted desktop jumps around wildly according to my viewing history when I repeatedly press Tab, which makes it hard to anticipate when to stop for the desired desktop and makes WTDs relatively inefficient.

After releasing Tab and holding Crtl to show the desktop list, I can also use the mouse to select a desktop from the list. Interestingly, when I click on desktop 1 (at the top of the list) I get my current desktop. When I click on desktop 2 (second from the top), I get the desktop I visited before the current (causing the selector to highlight a different desktop than the one I click), when I click desktop 3 I get the pre-last, etc.

The fact that I get the correct desktop when simply pressing Ctrl-Tab, the way the pop-up desktop list is sorted and the behaviour when clicking on that list with the mouse all suggest that everything is implemented properly, except the sorting of the desktops in that list, and hence that this is a small bug report rather than a feature request. The expected sorting would be: current desktop at top, previously visited desktop in second place, etc.

Cheers and thanks a lot for KDE :-) ~Marc.
