Description Axel Keller 2009-11-27 16:19:39 UTC
Version: 4.3.1 (using KDE 4.3.1)
OS: Linux
Installed from: openSUSE RPMs

Using a keyboard with layout pc104:
- not all keys are passed correctly, but small letter äöü
- SHIFT + single key does not produce the upper case symbol, e.g.
SHIFT + A produces 'a'
- Holding SHIFT + A produces 'aAAA...'
- in application kwrite a single keystroke produces more than one (same) character

You are using VNC, aren't you?

Can you reproduce this issue all the time? Are all these issues related to the Shift-key?
Comment 2 Axel Keller 2009-11-29 17:39:31 UTC
I'm using a VNC connection within the KRDC client and running KRFB on server
side.

I can reproduce this issue with several KDE 4.3 systems connected to other KDE
4.3 systems (Desktops and Notebooks, all openSUSE 11.2).

It seems that the SHIFT key is combined with a second keystroke. But this
doesn't happen if you only want a single character.

kind regards
Axel Keller

Do you have the possibility to try with another VNC server if you can reproduce this issue there as well?

Just a confirmation of this problem. Commented on a similar bug report -- https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=182073

I am having the same issue. I am currently using Mandriva 2010.1 Alpha 3 using KDE 4.4 and have been able to replicate this on my system. When trying to use the shift key to put in a capital letter I will only get lower case, however if I use the caps key then it will work fine.

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 12.10
Release: 12.10
Codename: quantal

KRDC 4.10.1

I recently updated from the original KDE distribution that comes with Kubuntu in hopes that this issue would disappear but it has not. In KDE 4.3 (I think), I was not able to toggle the caps lock; it only typed in capital letters. I know this because when I typed in my name I was able to see it. However, something changed in the recent version of KRDC so that I don't get the initial logon screen where I enter my name but only the password field so I can't tell if it is the caps lock.

I am able to connect to the same machine using UltraVNC and RealVNC. Unfortunately both display extremely slowly.
