What I was doing when the application crashed:
right-clicked the network traffic graph in System Monitor, changed pixels per time period setting from the default, 6, to 20.  I'm not sure what the name of the setting was, but it was similar to this.  Clicked Apply.  Crash.  

I took a quick look at possible duplicates, but I'm sorry, my knowledge of the system isn't so great.  I thought it best to submit anyway.
