Version: (using KDE 4.3.2) OS: Linux Installed from: Ubuntu Packages digikam 1.0.0-beta5, 64-bit: Whenever I try to add a new collection (on my regular hard drive), I get the error: It was not possible to add a collection for the following paths: <path-to-directory-I'm-trying-to-add> There don't seem to be any instructions about adding collections in the Help, so maybe I'm not doing the right thing (Settings | Configure digikam | Collections | Local collections | Add collection) , but I can't think of anything else to try. I have full permissions on the directory I'm trying to add.

Usually there is a feedback dialog appearing before the changes are applied with info about storage location or any problems. Nothing for you? Please also check if there is output on the console. Ensure that KDE Solid is working on your system ("solid-hardware list details" gives a lot of output) because I got reports that Ubuntu managed to break this.
Waiting for beta6 to show up in karmic... This is a a production machine, so only official packages are loaded on it. No, there was no feedback dialog beforehand. Just the error message when I actually tried to add the new collection. "solid-hardware list details" printed out loads of stuff, so I imagine that it's working.
Digikam 1.0 is available in karmic-backports. Can you re-test with that version?
Tested with 1.0 from karmic-backports, and the behaviour seems to be exactly the same :-(
What about error dialog and console output? For the latter, please run kdebugdialog and enable code 50003.
