Description Shlomi Fish 2009-11-23 10:54:42 UTC
Version: 2.4 (using Devel)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Compiled sources

Often after I use Konsole and start a few tabs (I'm using XFCE as my desktop here due to the fact that KDE 4.x was too unresponsive), the cursor above the tabs disappears and I cannot see it. It's there and can be moved out of the tabs' bar, but it's not seen.

So when your mouse is over Konsole tabbar, the mouse disappears?

I think I've explained myself well enough. It's not that the mouse itself disappears - it's still there near the keyboard. Moreover, the logical cursor still exists in the screen and can be used to click on things and be moved out , it's just that I cannot see the visual icon attached to it to show where I need to press.

I can confirm this. I am running KDE 4.4 Beta on Kubuntu 9.10 from PPA.

What actually happens is the mouse cursor disappears when hovered over a tab and reappears again when out of that area. The inactive tabs are highlighted so you know which tab the cursor is on. Clicking on an inactive tab makes it active.

What I have found to work is the following:

- Go to Edit Current Profile -> General
- Click the Icon to choose a new one
- Click Apply (the mouse cursor over tabs work)
- Select the old icon again (the mouse cursor over tabs still works)

Hope that helps in debugging the issue and helps other workaround the annoyance for the time being.

Thanks for the workaround! It works nicely here. And thanks for confirming this bug and for the extra information.

Actually I just noticed last night that you can select the same icon the first time and the mouse cursor will stay visible.

So you do not need to select an icon twice.

Hopefully this can get fixed soon before the final release. It is a regression.

I found out how to reproduce. Select a tab and press Ctrl+Alt+S to rename it. Say "Hello" and press enter. Viola! Your cursor disappears.

I just fresh installed Kubuntu 10.04 and still see the problem. It has not improved at all yet.

There's some thought this is a Qt bug.

I should add that I have not seen this behavior in other KDE apps that work with Tabs (kopete, etc). Hope it helps to narrow down the problem.
Comment 10 Harald Sitter 2010-06-11 08:55:41 UTC
I second the thought of this being a Qt bug. I also get this behaviour at times in Dolphin.... just that it affects the tabs + the the folderview itself there.

I noticed that this only happens with the shortcut keys. It does not happen if you double click on the tab name to initiate the rename.

Is this still a issue with recent version of konsole? I can't reproduce it per comment #6 in konsole-2.7.999 .

Yes, it seems to be fixed in KDE-4.7. Thanks for whatever was done to resolve it! Closing as WORKSFORME.

Yup, verified fixed.
