From inbox, open email, click on reply or forward and the message is absent from being inline, just not there.  Send as attachment does work.

Hmm, never have seen such a bug. Maybe you stumbled over a "feature"? When you have some text selected in the mail you want to reply to, only the selected text is inlined in the new window. So maybe you had  accidently selected some whitespaces?

Anyway, KDE 4.2.2 is not maintained anymore. So we cannot fix this for you. Perhaps you upgrade to a newer ubuntu release and report back?
