The printer configuration wizard is not able to auto-recognize my HP P2035 (USB) printer, although I can choose the correct driver manually.

My Panasonic KX-P4410 laser printer can not be configured in Kubuntu Karmic 9.10 using Printer Configuration (K > Settings > System Settings > Printer Configuration), Printers (K > Applications > System > Printers), or through CUPS 1.4.1. It is simply not detected, so it can't be configured. This same printer works flawlessly in Kubuntu Jaunty Jackalope 9.04.

lsusb doesn't 'see' it:

Please, will someone confirm this - it is a real problem. I have no printer running Kubuntu Karmic 9.10 (32-bit), kernel 2.6.31-21-generic i686 (32 bit), KDE 4.4.2. As I stated, this exact same printer, running on the exact same PC, but running Kubuntu Jaunty 9.04 (32-bit), KDE 4.4.x, works fine. CUPS sees it and it can be managed.

I just want to use my printer in Karmic. I don't think that is asking to much.

Your problem seems to be unrelated to kde and therefore this bug, as the printer isn't even recognised by the basic tools.
Instead you should file a bug on launchpad.net which is Ubuntu's bug tracker.

"system-config-printer-kde" is no longer maintained and has been replaced with "Print Manager" since KDE 4.10. The new version is a C++ rewrite of the old Python version, and may still lack some features or have some bugs.

If this or another issue still needs to be addressed in KDE 4.10 or newer, please add a comment, or report it for "Print Manager".
