Version: (using KDE 4.3.3) OS: Linux Installed from: Ubuntu Packages How to reproduce : Right click on a Folder view widget, try to Create New -> Link to Application... The new window opens but the name is unchangeable. The linking file .desktop will have the name "Link to Application.desktop" But the name displayed on the desktop is correct because of the choice of the name under the "Application" tab. Second problem : Do it two times and the option to rename or overwrite your file will appear (Because another launcher as the same name). Third problem : It's possible to create empty links, that point nowhere. User should be inform of this. How to solve first and second bug: Accept and create the file like that. Right click again and this time we can change the name.
I can't edit name "Link to Application" when I want to create new icon on my desktop. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Mandriva 2010.0 KDE 4.3.2 Plasma desktop How reproducible: Click with RMB on desktop and select "Create New / Link to Application". Now I can't edit text "Link to Application". It's same with "Create New / Link to Device". I can't edit "CD-ROM Device". Workaround: Create new link with this default name and next Rename icon on the desktop.
I confirm this. Version: using KDE branches 4.3 OS: Linux Installed from: SVN
I can also confirm this on KDE 4.3.4 (openSuse 11.2, not ubuntu). The "General" tab's lineedit is not editable, i.e. read-only. Location says "/usr/share/kde4/templates/.source", which is a folder. Along with bug/wish #170138 it is not possible to create new .desktop files and links to apps in the task bar, which is a major issue. Almost every employee stumbles over this here at the university.
This is no plasma issue. Reassigning.
Seems to work now as I could change the the text in the line edit on the general tab. For the other issues, if still applicable (after all these years), please open separate reports for each issue.
It works now for me in KDE in Fedora31 distribution.
