Application that crashed: digikam
Version of the application: 1.0.0-beta5
KDE Version: 4.3.2 (KDE 4.3.2)
Qt Version: 4.5.2
Operating System: Linux 2.6.31-14-generic i686
Distribution: Ubuntu 9.10

What I was doing when the application crashed:
digiKam is crashing when it should download pictures from a CF card. . This happens now on independently on two computers on which importing worked fine before upgrading to Ubuntu Karmic. On on of the computers Karmic was installed fresh, keeping however the user settings and the /home folder from Jaunty, on the other the system was upgraded from Jaunty to Karmic. On both digiKam has been installed through Add/Remove Programs or Ubuntu Software Centre. 
digiKam is version 1.0.0-beta5, using KDE 4.3.2 (KDE 4.3.2 -- that's what it says in "About")
The OS is Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala
Importing was attempted in digiKam by: Import ---> Card Readers
The card was a CFII used in a EOS 50D

But how do I install beta6 from tarball?
There is no "configure" file in the tarball, and therefore I cannot install it following these instructions: http://www.digikam.org/drupal/download/tarball

Oh this information is really outdated...

Since cmake is used you must do the following in the code tree:
cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=`kde-config --prefix` .
make
make install

Oh, by "code tree" I mean the root directory that you extracted from the tar containing the CMakeLists.txt

I changed the webpage's content, the menu will also link to the KDE4 version of the SVN built instructions now, it pointed to the old KDE3 code.

So please either check /download/SVN or /download/tarball on the webpage now, it should be updated.
