Description Anders Lund 2009-11-08 12:10:23 UTC
Version: 1.12.2 (using 4.3.2 (KDE 4.3.2), Chakra KDE)
Compiler: gcc
OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.31-ARCH

I have been unfortunate enough to have to accept IMAP accounts, which appears not to work well with kmail.

Quite often, kmail simply goes into an eternal blocking state with these accounts, preventing manual checks from getting new mail. The only thing that helps is restarting kmail (kontact in my case).

I am currently not very interrested in IMAP, I only use it because I have to, and my filtering rules moves mails to my local filesystem.

Is there a workaround to prevent kmail from trying to update the folders in the disfunctional way?

Exactly the same problem here and this is sadly a major annoyance.
The only workaround to me is also killing all kmail and kio_imap processes.

Though Kmail is my favorite, I had pretty much the same kind of issue with all the clients I have tried : Evolution, Sylpheed, etc.

Why is there such an issue with Imap ?

I see this problem when I resume from suspend. When I try to check mail after a resume, most of the time (maybe 80-90%?) the progress indicator hangs at 0%. I have to quit kmail, and manually kill the kmail process and restart before I can check mail again. This sounds like the same basic problem.

Qt: 4.6.2
KDE Development Platform: 4.4.2 (KDE 4.4.2)
KMail: 1.13.2

Hi

To reproduce this, just take the network out from under Kontact and try to check email using IMAP accounts.
Kontact just sits there with the message "Retrieving folder contents" in the main window.

It makes using Kontact a pain (try switching networks or using a 3G connection with Kontact). Is there a way to fix this (maybe IMAP configuration ?) -- if not, is it possible to get this fixed ? It's been hanging around for a few releases now.

Thanks

I am now using Disconnected IMAP accounts instead of IMAP accounts. It helps a lot.

Isn't this duplicate of bug #77862 ?

Same issue here, with latest version as of the date I'm posting this.

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

KMail2 was released in 2011, and the entire code base went through significant changes. We are currently in the process of porting to Qt5 and KF5. It is unlikely that these bugs are still valid in KMail2.

We welcome you to try out KMail 2 with the KDE 4.14 release and give your feedback.
