Description Gregor Waluga 2009-11-07 23:34:00 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.3)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Hi!

After a long long period with many many crashes I suppose to have found the cause: kopete!

It began with KDE 4.3.1. Sometimes, without any advance warning and without haveing any hint X crashes. First I thought its the matter of overload when converting video files or so.
In KDE 4.3.2 the same. Then I hoped it is a Ubuntu Jaunty Bug (or wrong NVIDIA driver). So I upgraded to Karmic: still the same crash. 2-5 times a day WITH data losses.
After Update to KDE 4.3.3 this crash is still there.

This crash is NOT reproducable. I still don't know exactly what causes the crahs, but I could isolate what I did BEFORE KWin or X (I don't know exactly) crashed: I clicked on a Kopete task in the task bar. I think it is insignificant whether someone sent me a message or not.

I hope someone's got the same problem so that we can eliminate this bug.

Currently I Use KDE 4.3.3 on Kubuntu 9.10 with NVidia GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 and original NVdia-driver nvidia-glx-185 and desktop-effects enabled.

Greetings,
Poppei

X crashes are bugs with the graphics driver (or xserver in some cases), not the client applications.

However it happens only, if I click on Kopete task. Should I report it in KWin section?
