Description Parameshwara Bhat 2009-11-06 13:24:02 UTC
Version: 1.12.2 (using 4.3.1 (KDE 4.3.1) "release 183", KDE:KDE4:Factory:Desktop / openSUSE_11.1)
Compiler: gcc
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.27.37-0.1-default

I cannot mark messages as read or delete messages when I am selecting messages by hand and moving down with key-board.If I let the selection move automatically with deletion or marking, then the next message can also be marked or deleted. For that to work, initial selection should be what the program moves to by default.

Also,I do not know why, some mails just refuse to be marked read or deleted.Sometimes, when a mail is deleted or marked read, kmail crashes.( I do not have debug-info package installed right now)

Cannot confirm in KDE 4.4.0. Do you still have this problem?
Comment 3 Parameshwara Bhat 2010-03-07 16:07:51 UTC
I am not in official kde 4.4.0,but this is opensuse factory update, with the rider not fully without crumbs. My version is,1.30 on kde 4.4.0

What I can say is frequency of the problem is reduced, but I did encounter once or twice.

Thanks.

Hi, I have this problem in 4.6 (in 4.6.80 the problem persists, too). Even when I try to set read status manually through the context menu it doesn't work and mail is still remains in blue color as unread.

Also, often, after I read a mail and then hit the "check mail" button, just read messages appears as unread again. In kmail settings I have "mark messages as read after 0 seconds".

Best regards.

P.S.
I work with imap accounts from different email providers, if it does matter.

Are you using filters on those accounts? If so, this may be a duolicate of #283682.
Comment 6 Alexander 2012-03-12 09:06:00 UTC
No, I am don't and this happens absolutely with all my accounts (not only gmail included). Just now I got 2 new mails, read them and hidden the kmail to tray. After few minutes these emails appeared again as unread. This makes kmail absolutely unusable if you got hundreds of emails each day.

Arch linux x86_64,
KDE 4.8.1

KMail Version 4.11.2 in Kontact on Kubuntu 13.10 amd64

I've been having the same issue. Regardless of how I read, mark, update, move, or modify the message, it always appears as unread as soon as the imap folder is rescanned.

If I log into my imap account with a different mail client, and mark the message there, the next time the message is scanned by kmail it retains the correct read status.

I have debugging symbols installed here, and I have some programming experience but am new to kde debugging. If someone can give me an idea of where to begin or how to start attacking this, I can probably fix it.

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

KMail2 was released in 2011, and the entire code base went through significant changes. We are currently in the process of porting to Qt5 and KF5. It is unlikely that these bugs are still valid in KMail2.

We welcome you to try out KMail 2 with the KDE 4.14 release and give your feedback.
