Description michael 2009-11-06 08:08:02 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.3)
OS: Linux
Installed from: openSUSE RPMs

Hi!

Since the update from KDE-4.3.2 to 4.3.3 my korganizer does not show my imap resource from kmail. kmail works as before and I could see all my email and so on. But korganizer calender is empty, as well as the resource view does not show the subtrees of the imap resource. It seems that it simply does not connect to the imap-source. Nothing else was changed in the system.

Best regards,

 Michael

I can confirm this on Kubuntu. In 4.3.3, the resource is there in korganizer, the groupware icons are shown in kmail (ical/vcard type, German language) after manually adding the TheIMAPResourceAccount entry in kmailrc.

However, the IMAP resource does not show any subresources and also does not show any events etc.

It worked in 4.3.2, but the upgrade to 4.3.3 broke it.

could you guys be somehow using Qt 4.6?
I know there are problems with dbus and Qt 4.6.

I'll look at diffs between kdepim4.4.2 and kdepim4.4.3 and see if there's anything that could be causing this
Comment 3 Reinhold Kainhofer 2009-11-11 22:41:25 UTC
Nope, I'm using stock Kubuntu packages for Qt (version is "4.5.3really4.5.2-0ubuntu1", whatever that exactly means).

The Korganizer package (version of the package is "4:4.3.3-0ubuntu1~ppa1") is not stock Kubuntu, but from the semi-official PPA http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/ppa/ubuntu (stock Kubuntu Karmic does not have 4.3.3, but only 4.3.2)

Sorry, but I think this is not possible for me, because I am using only the 'official' packages from the OpenSuSE-build system. And I do not know whether it is possible installing qt-4.6 with the latest KDE4.3.3 without disturbing to much. Last time I have done this (from 4.3 to 4.4) I have had a lot of trouble.

May be I have a hint, I have activated akonadi, and there I found a message in the info:

Status: Initialization based on the stored configuration failed (offline)

This message is shown for the imap resource.

Best regards,
 Michael

I have done a test, going back to version 4.3.1, which is shipped with OpenSuSE-11.2 my imap-resources are visible.

Best regards,

 Michael

Two further remarks:

1. Kde4.3.4 does not solve the problem.
2. I have an older system with KDE-4.3.2. When adding a new event within kmail in 4.3.2 it appears in kmail of 4.3.4 in the correct kmail-folder, but still not in korganizer. Therefore, maybe this is a problem of korganizer?

When using kontact and start it first, before any other pim-application, the imap-source in kontact is visible! So, I have found at least a solution for my situation. Usually I do not use kontact.

Nope, not here. Even if I start kontact without any PIM apps running, the
korganizer part won't show any subresources or events of the imap resource.
There's also no warning/error message telling the user that something and what
weng wrong.

Neither do I. It's just too cumbersome to work with almost keyboard-only, and
there's no way to see your calendar and your mail at the same time.

Cheers,
Reinhold

By the way, I am using the latest OpenSuSE KDE-4.3.4 version.

Reinhold, you solved this right?
by removing a local copy of Kontact.desktop, iirc?

if you did get a solution please post it here

I have a similar problem. I believe it appeared with the Debian update from
$korganizer -v
Qt: 4.5.3
KDE: 4.3.4 (KDE 4.3.4)
KOrganizer: 4.3.4
From that point on, one of my computers was unable to show an existing kmail imap calendar (kolab2 format). When I try to add an imap calendar, I get a reduced set of about 6 options: Akonadi, Birthdays, Journal, Local File, Local Directory, Remote file) that does not include imap. So no access to the imap calendar and no way to add one. It still seems to exist in the ksresources/stdrc file and in the korganizerrc. The problem has persisted to
$ korganizer -v
Qt: 4.6.3
KDE Development Platform: 4.4.5 (KDE 4.4.5)
KOrganizer: 4.4.5

On two other machines, one still at korganizer 4.3.4 and another at 4.4.5, the calendar _is_ accessible and the add calendar dialog _does_ propose an imap option within a fuller list of options (12 of them). So the imap calendar is functional and the software can work, but doesn't on all machines.

Any help or suggestions for further testing would be greatly appreciated.

In 4.6. things are done differently.
The kolab resource doesn't have this problem.
Comment 13 Boris 2011-07-15 13:29:20 UTC
Thanks for looking at this, Sergio.

Actually (assuming if 4.6 refers to KDE and not to korganizer), on the problematic computer I still have no access to an existing imap calendar (works fine on two other computers and I can access the account for mail). If I try to add a new one in the following way

Add calendar -> Akonadi -> Manage Calendar Sources -> Add

the Kolab Groupware Server option does now exist, but it is greyed out and cannot be selected.

I suspect that there was a problem with migration of existing resources through the various compatibility mechanisms at some point (to resolve another issue I had a mixture of debian testing and unstable packages for a while, which may not have helped). What would be the least invasive way of starting afresh? Or otherwise test.

$ korganizer -v
Qt: 4.7.3
KDE Development Platform: 4.6.3 (4.6.3)
KOrganizer: 4.4.11

You have kdepim 4.6 too ?
Comment 15 Boris 2011-07-15 14:27:19 UTC
"You have kdepim 4.6 too ?"

Worse (and very interesting): the debian package "kdepim" (4.4) was simply not installed. So I installed it and it works. Thanks!

#aptitude install kdepim
The following NEW packages will be installed:
blogilo{a} kdepim kdepim-groupware{a} kdepim-strigi-plugins{a} kdepim-wizards{a} ktimetracker{a}

One of those packages made the difference. I guess debian should look at the dependencies of kontact (kdepim is a metapackage which depends on everything else). It's rather difficult for mere users to understand exactly what they need...
