When I attempt to open Amarok, it segfaults/crashes.

Please note: I am not a programmer.

I did check all the KDE bug reports regarding Amarok crashes. While some appear somewhat similar, I believe my problem is not the same as any of the reported bugs. i.e. Other bug reports have their crashes occur when amarok is already open and is being asked to perform some action. 

In this case, I suspect a previously unreported action may be the cause.I suspect a recently upgraded amarok dependency may be involved. Unfortunately, I don't know where to even start when it comes to tracking through dependencies.

I've tried earlier versions of amarok and earlier versions of mysql {based on my reading of various posts/bugs} in different combinations.

I've been unable to find/narrow down a specific cause.

Since the issue appears not to be version dependent with amarok or mysql, I re-emerged the latest available version of amarok, xine-lib, amarok-tools, mysql, and taglib-extras using the "-ggdb" compiler option and adding "splitdebug" to FEATURES as per gentoo instructions regarding the generation of backtraces. I hope this helps.

FWIW, you should check with Gentoo, since it's not unlikely that this is due to your MySQL version. We have had many bug reports from Gentoo users with MySQL problems.

Erm, he has debugging symbols, it's a totally legit backtrace.

However, all I can recommend is making sure everything is up-to-date with revdep-rebuild and making sure you've run a kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental.
