Version: (using KDE 4.3.2) OS: Linux Installed from: Ubuntu Packages If you view a .desktop file in Dolphin, it previews as the file contents. When the file represents a launcher, a preview of the icon is much more accurate. For instance, visit applications:/Internet and mouse over an application. The displayed preview is the contents of the .desktop file, which seems suboptimal.
When I see an icon in the preview I assume that the file is either a picture or a folder. No, I wouldn't want text files to be shown as appliaciton icons in the preview, I like that it shows the text. One advantage is that you can see on-the-fly the name of the command and the name of the icon without having to open the file in a text editor. But how about showing both? By now the text file preview also shows the icon of a gear when it's a launcher. This maybe could be replaced by the icon specified in the text file.
