What I was doing when the application crashed:
I switched to the kaddressbook view in kontact and doubleclicked the akonadi-resource (which didn't show me any kontacts, though it should have all). 

Then it showed a message saying "already loading" or similar. 

A few moments later Kontact died. (I'm not sure if I doubleclicked the akonadi-resource again after the message)

My system is under high load, right now - damn high load - and sluggish at times, so it could be a race.
