Version: (using KDE 4.3.2) OS: Linux Installed from: Ubuntu Packages One of my most common use cases is to create a picture, and then select specific areas and tweak them one part at a time. Often I go back and tweak an earlier section. In gimp, I can do this very efficiently, with only one paint layer by using Select -> Save to Channel to save and then "Alpha to Channel" to restore (although the naming of this could be much better). Add / Subtract and Intersect selection are also really nice touches, but much less important than just "Load/Save Selection". If this does exist already, it would be great to add it to the Selection menu as well. Thanks always for the work on Krita. It's feeling more and more stable every day. Can't wait for 2.1 to be unleashed on the world!
We sort of intended to make this easy by having local selection masks that can be enabled, disabled loaded and saved, created from the global selection and then turned back into a global selection. But I see that the handling of local selections is broken. If the concept of local selections would suffice for your usage, then I think we should upgrade this wish item to a bug. Otherwise, I'll add a bug about the local selections :-).
The local selection masks option sounds perfect. Feel free to change the status to a bug. I was wondering what those "local selection" layer options were, but thought I just hadn't figured out how to use it right. Looking forward to testing it out! :)
Bug it is, and confirmed.
Specifically: * the visibility icon is broken: the selection outline is shown when the eye icon is off, and it's hidden when it's on. * the visibility affects the effect of the selection: I think that there should be a third icon for that to enable/disable the selection * there can be only one local selection mask, which limits the usefulness. * moving the local selection from layer to layer seems to randomly affect whether the local selection is effective * copying the selection mask to apply it to another layer as well doesn't seem to be possible * it's not possible either to create a global selection from the selection mask again. * when creating a new global selection and then creating a local selection replaces the old one instead of merging the two or adding a new local selection mask * changing the contents of the local selection mask doesn't seem possible except by replacing it from a new global selection * the thumbnail for the local selection mask is broken.
