Version: 1.3 (using 4.3.2 (KDE 4.3.2), Debian packages) Compiler: cc OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.31-4.slh.1-sidux-686 I configured the toolbar in dolphin to include the "search bar" as last entry. After applying the change the search bar is displayed and looks good. After quiting and restarting dolphin the search bar is missing. Instead a second window is opened that is completely empty and does not redraw itself (so you always see the latest things that did cover the window). When customizing the toolbar again and removing the search bar, the ghost window disappears, too, in further restarts.
This bug happened on openSUSE 11.2 using KDE 4.3.1. Search was added to the dolphin toolbar and possibly it didn't fit. But every time dolphin was launched a non-responsive window appeared with dolphin. When the search was removed from the toolbar this no longer happened. When search was then added back to dolphin it didn't happen to me anymore. Also see https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=546712
Thanks for the report. Is my guess correct that you did an update from KDE 4.2 to 4.3 and did not do a "fresh" installation?
You are correct. It was not a fresh install. This problem has since gone away.
In my case KDE was upgraded, too, as I am using the rolling-releasing sidux and do upgrades frequently. I have tried it again now with KDE 4.3.4 (on another sidux PC though, that continuously was upgraded from KDE4.2.0(?), too) and the ghost window still does occur.
It seems that the "search bar" entry is no longer available in the cusomize toolbar requester. Instead the search functionality (ctrl+f) is enhanced. So this bug report probably does not apply anymore and can be closed. (KDE4.9.4/Kubuntu)
Thanks for the followup. Close it
