Description Alexander 2009-10-05 21:28:18 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.1)
Compiler: gcc 4.3.2
OS: Linux
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

Basically, I had this problem that .ini files were always opened via wine+notepad, instead of kate or whatever's the default.

So, I went to systemsettings -> File Associations, found the .ini entry ("x-wine-extension-ini", and tried to reset it. Well, no such option exists. The only thing I can do is run a clean KDE with another user and copy the settings by comparing them (visually).

Even worse, the "clean" KDE doesn't have that type at all! Yet, .ini files seem to open fine there in Konqueror and KDevelop4 in the clean configuration, while in the first KDE configuration they won't open in KDevelop4 even if I set them to open in embedded editor / kate.

I tried removing "x-wine-extension-ini" type completely, but it came back, and now it's non-removable.

I think there should be an option to reset the association (per-type, probably). Maybe even offer to remove the type entry completely if it's not in the defaults?

I definitely want that option.
In my case, text/plain has a description of "Typelib Generated C/C++ Inline File", and has a bunch of bizarre filename patterns.

It seems to come from files in ~/.local/share/mime/, but that's not very intuitive.

Thank you for the bug report, Alexander.

I have just checked this and managed to re-order the preference of which application is used to launch a certain file format.

Can you please test again on a recent version?

I've set this bug to NEEDSINFO. Once you have added the required information please change the bug back to REPORTED so we know it's ready for investigation or RESOLVED/WORKSFORME if the issue is now resolved.
Comment 4 Alexander 2021-03-12 08:41:04 UTC
I believe this issue is no longer relevant (at least for me), as now the user has the ability to remove file extensions for a file type, and reorder associated programs.
