Description m.wege 2009-10-02 09:21:21 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.1)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

There is an annoying bug in the cookie manager which causes it to forget previous settings on a page.
Unfortunately I am not 100% sure how to reproduce it, trigger it.
My standard setting for cookies is "allow cookies", "ask for confirmation". Then I decide upon the fate of cookies for every site once, if they are rejected or allowed, depending on if they are/appear necessary for navigation or login.
If the bug appears cookie-manager seems to forget all the previous knowledge of how to handle the cookies of a specific site, even though, the settings still appear in the cookie-manager. This becomes very annoying when agregator is online and pulling all feeds. I then get very much requests about how to handle the cookies of the site. I mention akregator, because it might be involved.
Theory of triggering the bug: It seems to have something to do when I change the cookie-handling of a site, where I already had settings for. In this case I wanted to comment on a blog which is hosted on blogger. I normally do not accept cookies from blooger/google. So I went in the cookie-manager, changed that setting for these pages, so that I would be asked again and accept the cookies one by one.
This, so it appears, triggered the bug. I got requests on how to handle cookies on several sites, where I had made my decision in the past already.
Unfortunately I can not trigger it again, by just repeating the procedure. I may have done something slightly different. But this is not the first time, this bug has pested me on several occaisions in the past months (since starting to test KDE4.3).

Can someone confirm this bug? It is really an annoying one. If no one else can reproduce it, I will try further, to reproduce it.

the bug is still present in kde4.4.
still not 100% sure how to reproduce it exactly, but it may have something to do with choosing "apply" or "ok", if it is triggered or not. another speculation is that it might depend on the cookie itself.

Is there really no one willing to look into this bug. It is amoung my most hated and I believe that for someone who is able to read code, it should be easy to trace. I must have something to do with the logic of storing of the cookie settings. It appears like the following is happening.
(My initial setting for cookies is "Allow" and "Ask for confirmation")
- I go into the cookie settings and change the cookie setting for a single page
- I close the cookie settings with apply or ok.
Here at that point the cookie manager seems to reset the cookie settings for ALL pages where I already have set a policy to ASK.
- The main problem problem for me is to make it exactly reproducable, but it happens so often, that it should be easy to trace.
