Version: 1.3 (using 4.3.1 (KDE 4.3.1) "release 165", KDE:KDE4:Factory:Desktop / openSUSE_11.1) Compiler: gcc OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.27.29-0.1-default In older KDE 3.5(And any other OS),when you begin renaming files, file name is highlighted excluding the extension and you can edit the line.In the first versions of KDE4,(4.1),it remained like that.Since then, when you begin renaming, inline or not,the original name of the file is removed. This causes more typing to do and oftentimes, where what one wants to do is just add a few letters or word to filename, having no reference to original file name makes it very difficult. This (possibly)appears as a strange occurrence in file save dialog.Earlier you could select an existing file, edit and give name to the new file while saving. Now,you cannot do that.(Possible if you pick up the file suggestions which come when you start typing, but depends on your knowledge of name-pattern.
This reminded me of bug 188533. - Do you have SCIM/SKIM installed ? Thanks
Thank you very much. That indeed was the problem. Now both the above described occurrences have disappeared.
