Description Rastislav Krupanský 2009-09-24 15:41:48 UTC
Version: kdebluetooth4-0.3-8.1.i586 (using KDE 4.3.1)
OS: Linux
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

Hi.
I'm trying KBluetooth4 (kdebluetooth4-0.3-8.1.i586
) in openSUSE Milestone7. I'm able to connect mobile phone Sony Ericsson K530i, even, remote control of desktop via mobile phone works for me great. But Nokia mobile phones(6120 and 5310 Xpress Music) have troubles.
KBluetooth4-devicemanager picks up both Nokia phones, but then Bluetooth Device Manager tells me "Sorry your Bluetooth Device does not support input Service" .
Comment 1 ByteEnable 2009-10-12 01:47:44 UTC
kbluetooth4 gives me the same error with my new Android phone, a Sprint HTC Hero.

kdebluetooth4-0.3-9.2.x86_64
Comment 2 S Clark 2009-10-30 04:05:46 UTC
I'm currently seeing the same problem with a Motorola "Razr" v3, on kbluetooth 0.4 (with KDE 4.3.2). Arch Linux, if that helps. I'm trying to get the bluetooth connection working for file transfer. kbluetooth finds the device when scanning, but just gives me the cryptic "device does not support input service" message. Can't figure out what the problem is here...

To do it you don't need to use the input wizard/device manager :/
kbluetooth finds the device

This is because the device manager is only for Input devices (ATM).

Wow! I've a Android phone too! so I can test that :) what application are you using to do it? I look at the market but I haven't found anything that support HID (bluetooth input :()

Another thing to take care, is the version of bluez, which one are you using?

Thanks!
Comment 6 Rastislav Krupanský 2009-11-06 13:40:20 UTC
Hm, i don´t think it´s an issue of bluez, because everything works under Gnome properly with Gnome-bluetooth.
But for sure i´ll give an info, as soon as i install 11.2 openSUSE final release;-)

I'll wait until opensuse 11.2 comes out, other people had the same probelm with 11.1 and the next version fix it.

I am running on final 11.2.
bluez-4.56-1.1.1.i586 and kdebluetooth4-0.3-9.1.i586 are used in 11.2. But still the same issue.
Comment 10 Alex Fiestas 2009-11-11 11:58:07 UTC
From the name of the package I can see that you're probably using a 0.3 verison, is that true?
What are the name of the binaries? or in the About, which version is shown?
Comment 11 dylan 2009-11-13 02:40:20 UTC
I am having this problem with my eeepc 1005ha netbook
and a sennheiser fx70 (?) bluetooth headset. i don;t
understand the comment about the "input device" ...
Comment 12 David Todd 2009-11-16 22:58:24 UTC
I have the same problem with a Nokia 2760 and a Nokia E63. Both get the "Sorry your Bluetooth device does not support input service" error.

I am using KDE 4.3.2 on Mandriva 2010.
Comment 13 Rastislav Krupanský 2009-11-17 12:41:38 UTC
I'm on openSUSE's KDE 4.3.3, release 2 and kdebluetooth4-0.3-11.1.i586 and still doesn't work.
Comment 14 Alex Fiestas 2009-11-17 13:09:33 UTC
If you look at your package you seems to be using kdebluetooth4-0.3 that was released at least 1 year ago :(

Try to grab the 0.4 version from somewhere (RC2 preferably).
Comment 15 David Todd 2009-11-17 14:08:44 UTC
My version is described in Mandriva as Kbluetooth 0.4-1.RC1.3mdv2010.0 and it doesn't work!
Comment 16 Alex Fiestas 2009-11-17 14:37:23 UTC
:(
I'm sorry bug if I can't reproduce the bug then I can't fix it :(
The device I have at home are:
-Nokia N73 (S60)
-Nokia N810 (Maemo)
-HTC Magic (Android)
-Wii mote (???)

Something that might help is the terminal output when running the wizzard.
-Execute kdebugdialog and turn on everything.
-Execute kbluetooth-inputwizard in a terminal.

Finally remember that Device manager is only for INPUT!

Thanks for everything!

Terminal output when running KBluetooth

This the output when trying to connect first one phone and then pressing back and trying to connect another.
Comment 18 David Todd 2009-11-17 15:04:14 UTC
I have attached the terminal output as requested. I have also tried both phones (Nokia 2760 & E63) on my laptop, also running Mandriva 2010, and that gives the same error. I have also just tried a Samsung U600, in case it is a Nokia issue, and that will not connect either.

On my laptop I run Nokia PC suite to interface with the phones via Bluetooth, so the Bluetooth hardware is definitely OK.

Are you sure that Nokia 5310 XressMusic support bluetooth HID? because I haven't been able to enable it :( Do I need a third party application?

I've tried with blueman too, and blueman (as kbluetooth) has not been able to found any input service.

Thanks!

Yes, i am sure Nokia 5310 supports bluetooth (also 6120, 3110). All of them work without any problems in Gnome. Try it via gnome-bluetooth.
Comment 22 Rastislav Krupanský 2009-11-18 20:47:40 UTC
So, i've just tried blueman in Gnome and in KDE also. Blueman is able to find the phones. I used Broadcam BCM 2035 bluetooth device and HP integrated bluetooth module on my notebook also.
Comment 23 Vasily Khoruzhick 2009-12-22 17:20:37 UTC
I got "Sorry your Bluetooth Device does not support input Service" message when I tried to add my bluetooth mouse. kbluetooth version is 0.4_rc2
Comment 24 Pol 2009-12-27 10:41:58 UTC
I have the same problem with
KBluetooth
Version 0.4
Using KDE Development Platform 4.3.85 (KDE 4.3.85 (KDE 4.4 Beta2)

The Bluetooth device Wizard finds my nokia n93, but returns:
"sorry: your Bluetooth device does not support input service"

So i am left with no coupling between devices possible.

If someone having this bug is able to build/test things, please reply in this bug so I can send a couple of patches which adds more debug, then maybe we can figure out what is happening.

Thanks!

I am not a programmer, yet i can try to debug, under your directions.
I have installed the development packages of kubuntu karmic and kde 4.4beta2

I have opensuse 11.2 with kde 4.3.1 & a nokia 6600.
kbluetooth-0.4.RC2-2.1.i586 wouldnt let me pair the phone.
I tried pairing via gnomes "bluetooth-applet" and that worked!

However, I cant get any apps to connect via bluetooth to my phone. I tried sending files both ways, which didn't work. Then I tried using Kanyremote and Ganyremote. Didn't work! Then I tried Gnokii. Which also didn't work.

So, even though I got it to pair, I still have no connectivity!

To send files, you don't need to pair in almost all cases.

I got the same error (the "internal server error" not the "does not support input Service" one) trying to comment on your blog post...

But back to this bug - it looks a bit to me like the problem might be the error message itself, in addition to whatever problem(s) is(are) causing the message to pop up. What exactly is the "input Service"? Does this mean that only kbluetooth is only for file transfers to cellphones (and not for connecting to any other kinds of bluetooth devices)?

Anyway, to expand on comment #2, one of the devices that gives me this error is a Motorola Razr v3 cellphone. Kbluetooth DOES successfully RECEIVE files from the cellphone, but attempts to connect to SEND files to the phone result in that same complaint about "not supporting input Service". (I also get the same message trying to figure out how to connect an rfcomm device [a bluetooth GPS]. Haven't even tried bluetooth audio yet.)

I'll give this latest release a try from the command prompt once I can get it onto my system.
Comment 32 S Clark 2010-02-10 19:03:44 UTC

I have to admit that I'm still not really clear what "Input" service is - is that specifically for keyboards, mice, etc. (and therefore "input service" is to use the phone buttons to, for example, control a slideshow presentation on the computer)?

According to "sdptool records" command, the phone provices a "serial port" (rfcomm), bluetooth audio, and OBEX file transfer (the latter of which is what I was attempting to use when I first ran into this problem).

(If "input services" means just using the phone as a wireless keyboard/mouse/button and the problem is just that OBEX, rfcomm, and (until recently) audio just wasn't yet implemented in kbluetooth4 then that would explain it, and possibly the other people having the same problem i.e. we're trying to do file transfer or audio or other pairing on a phone, not realizing that only use-the-phone-as-a-controller functions had been implemented so far? That would clear up my problem at least - you're right, I don't think the Razr v3 supports that particular function.)

Perhaps a blog post describing the different "services" as bluetooth categorizes them and plans for implementing them in kbluetooth4 would help clear things up.

Tried to connect my Nokia 6021 over bluetooth
Kbluetooth detected my phone without a problem, but connecting to it gave the following error message: 'Sorry your bluetooth device does not support input service'
I tried it with gnome bluetooth software too just to see if it worked there and it did perfectly.Since both uses the same backend,it must be a problem with kbluetooth.
After adding a phone using gnome-blootooth,The phone appears in the device manager.
The same problem is also found on: Nokia 6303 classic,Nokia 3110 Classic
Further info:
 1) Kubuntu 10.04 final (latest update 1 June 2010)
 2) Installed: 1:0.4.2-0ubuntu2
 3) Kbluetooth: 0.4
 4) i386 and amd-64

I executed the commands You told and got the result as follows:

Is there anything else that I can do to helpe you solve the bug?(other than buying a phone with input capabilities for you)
What exactly is input capabilities? Please explain only if you have time

Hi, can you test this bug against BlueDevil 1.0.1? (or even better with BlueDevil latest stable code?)

Thanks!

No feedback for 4 months... I think is time to close this bug.

Please, if you still can't use your input service open a NEW bug so we can work on it in a clean bug entry without KBluetoth old feedback.

Thanks!
