Description Dan Hazelton 2009-09-12 23:13:15 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.1)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

In XHTML pages all incidents of the <![CDATA[ ... ]]> comments are reported as markup errors. According to the spec the contents of 'style' and 'script' elements (where they exist) are supposed to be wrapped in <![CDATA[ ... ]]> in XHTML as opposed to being wrapped in the <!-- ... --> comment markers of plain HTML.

Webkit, Gecko and the Opera rendering engine (Presto?) all handle this correctly. I have tried serving the page with the correct content-type and also setting the content-type meta-tag. Neither seemed to cause Konqueror to properly parse an XHTML page containing this declaration.

Dear Bug Submitter,

This bug has been stagnant for a long time. Could you help us out and re-test if the bug is valid in the latest version? I am setting the status to NEEDSINFO pending your response, please change the Status back to REPORTED when you respond.

Thank you for helping us make KDE software even better for everyone!
Comment 2 Dan Hazelton 2018-11-07 12:36:39 UTC
For a "well conforming" document - ie: one that meets the requirements of being "strict" XHTML1.1 - there are no issues. If there is even one error (such as leaving out the 'xmlns' attribute on the 'html' tag) then the document is rendered directly as all the text nodes concatenated, including the contents of any <![CDATA[ ... ]]> sections.

This behavior (not properly handling something not meeting the "strict" specs) is not unique to Konqueror as testing shows both Firefox and Chromium have similar results. And as XHTML is no longer a dominant spec - indeed, with HTML5 being accepted and entering widespread use, it is no longer even "the future".

Thank you for reporting this issue in KDE software. As it has been a while since this issue was reported, can we please ask you to see if you can reproduce the issue with a recent software version?

If you can reproduce the issue, please change the status to "REPORTED" when replying. Thank you!
