Description Brendon Higgins 2009-09-05 13:31:01 UTC
Version: (using Devel)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Compiled sources

Running KDE 4.3.1 (needs to be added to the versions list, BTW). Here's an example: Open gwenview, select "Open File" and try to copy a URL, e.g. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/43/Playful_kitten.jpg into the name field. Then click "Open". The file selection dialog complains, "URL cannot be listed http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/43". I didn't want the URL listed, I just wanted to download and view the file. Gwenview doesn't open the file.

Interestingly, doing the same procedure in Okular, the file dialog still complains that the URL can't be listed, but Okular seems to be able to load the file anyway. Meanwhile, Amarok's cover manager (Set custom cover) won't load the file. (Trying to get an album cover of the Internet is what led me to initially discover this behaviour.)

IIRC, it all worked fine in KDE 3.5. Considering the power of kioslaves, it's somewhat dissappointing that this has become as tetchy as it is.

Please be more careful when selecting the product to report a bug against. KDevelop3's fileselector has nothing to do with gwenview, okular or amarok.

Sorry about that. In my defence, there's no indication in the bug reporting web interface that the "file selector" component which I had chosen has anything at all to do with kdevelop. I assumed this "file selector" was the dialog/subsystem this report is about. I can't be blamed for confusing nomenclature. :-)

Works for me in KDE Frameworks 5.45.
