Sergei, we only are in hard string freeze since a few days, why not give the translators some more time? Feel free to reopen this and assign it to the relevant translator team if this still happens once 2.2 final is released.
>Sergei, we only are in hard string freeze since a few days, why not give the translators some more time? I think you get it wrong: normally I prefer to use translated applications, but in the case of bugreporting I switched Amarok to English - but not all entries were switched: see russian strings in applet names.
Krzysztof can you have a look? I guess this might be caused by kbuildsycoca & friends caching strings that even if you change the application language are not refreshed (they can't because you changed the app lang not the desktop lang)

If this is only applet names, they might be translated using some mechanism specific to Amarok and that is why they are translated using other settings. Did reporter try to log out and log back in and then run Amarok?
>Did reporter try to log out and log back in and then run Amarok? Even complete reboot.
Does grep "russian string" `kde-config --localprefix`/share/config/ find the russian strings of the applet names in amarokrc? Then it's another case of OTT = One Time Translation.

This problem appears also with french. I usually have the following setup in systemsettings: EN_GB/EN_US/FR If I put FR as first choice, the whole desktop becomes french ater relogin. If I come back to EN_GB, then my desktop sees a mix of english and french. In particular, Kickoff will show a mix of both languages. If then I force into systemsettings another language change (eg set EN_US as first choice), then a window shows "updating system configuration" looping endlessly from 0 to 100%. After 2-4 hours of loop I close the window and the system remains in a messy setup that soes not correspond to the setup in systemsettings.
Is bug 240308 related to this one?
This bug still exists.
Amarok Version 2.4.3 Using KDE 4.7.1 (4.7.1)
The problem with ksycoca caching translated strings (which makes the K menu show strings in the wrong language, after switching language), will be fixed by https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/125279/ The screenshot from the original poster is not accessible anymore, so I'm not sure if that fully fixes thie bug report or not, though.
Thank you for the bug report. As this report hasn't seen any changes in 5 years or more, we ask if you can please confirm that the issue still persists. If this bug is no longer persisting or relevant please change the status to resolved.
KDiff3 1.9.5 (64 bit), Windows. System language is russian. Changed the interface language to en_US: https://i.imgur.com/QY59It8.png After restarting KDiff the interface is a mix or russian and english: https://i.imgur.com/jbuGqPa.png
(In reply to Vsevolod Golovanov from comment #16) > KDiff3 1.9.5 (64 bit), Windows. > System language is russian. > Changed the interface language to en_US: https://i.imgur.com/QY59It8.png > After restarting KDiff the interface is a mix or russian and english: > https://i.imgur.com/jbuGqPa.png That's a different story: the Russian translation of kdiff3 was not complete in 1.9.5 (kdiff3.po, which contains the strings shown in the screenshot) had 445 translated messages, 106 fuzzy translations, 40 untranslated messages; other po files used were not complete as well. All in all, I don't see compelling reasons for keeping this bug open: there may be cases where some translated strings are not used, but those are rare and specific bugs and they are tracked one by one when they happen. Of course strings may not be translated at all, even though we ship all the translations (in that case, the solution is find volunteer to complete the translation). I'm thus going to close this.
