Description Klaus S. Madsen 2009-09-03 13:21:45 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.0)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Starting with KDE 4.3.0 (but also verified in 4.3.1), some windows aren't removed from the task manager panel when they are closed. When this happens the box for the window will continue to be in the task manager panel, until I log out of KDE, and it will be present on all desktops even though I've chosen that the task manager only should display tasks from the current desktop. If the application that the window belongs to is still running, clicking the box will give focus to this application (and move to its desktop, if its not present on the current desktop). If the application is closed (or closed and started again) nothing happens.

The windows it happens most often for, is konsole, Kopete and Lotus Notes/Sametime.

Unfortunately I don't have the exact steps required to reproduce it. The only common thing I can think of for these windows, is that they are all closed by the application and not the window manager. I.e. in konsole, I dismiss the windows by exiting the shell (CTRL+D), kopete, by having configured escape to be "close windows", etc. I don't use the mouse or ALT+F4 to close them.

If you need more information, I'll be happy to provide it. Thanks in advance.

Could you please type CTRL+ESC and see if the application is still running ? You can also check with ps -A in a terminal.

From what I've experienced so far, it only happens for applications which can have more than one window at a time. So ordinarily the process that created the window will still be running, when the problem appears.

However I've just tried closing Kopete, which is currently showing this problem, and killing any processes (with kill -9) that showed up in "ps aux | grep kopete".

Even when this have been done, I still have a lingering kopete box in the task manager. But when I closed kopete, the title in the task manager box changed from "Kopete" to nothing, leaving an empty box with a kopete icon in.

Btw. Lotus Notes is a Java/GTK application, so it the problem isn't limited to Qt based applications.
