Version: (using KDE 4.3.0) OS: Linux Installed from: Ubuntu Packages When using the Update Notifier in the system tray to open the KDE Control Module for Software Updates, an internal system error occurs. When Refresh or Apply All Updates is presses, the same problem occurs. This occurs after Caching and DIRECTLY after the Downloading portion of the "Update" process (occurring at approximately 80%). When a backtrace is attempted the following is produced: "This backtrace appears to be of no use. This is probably because your packages are built in a way which prevents creation of proper backtraces, or the stack frame was seriously corrupted in the crash. - What is the name of the application crashing ? (it is in the name of the window of the crash dialog) - What is your KDE4 version ? (you are not using KDE4.3) - Does the crash happens every time / can you reproduce it at will ? Thanks
Dario, -Name of crashing application: KDE Control Module (in the crash window dialog box heading bar it says "An internal system error has occurred - KDE Control Module). This causes extreme system lag. In fact, often when right-clicking the Update Notifier icon in the taskbar, it takes upwards to 10 minutes for the dropdown menu to appear; all other processes run markedly slower, as well. -Version of KDE: KDE 4.2.2. -Prevalence: Crash happens every time, I am able to reproduce it each and every time I A.) reboot Kubuntu and select to apply updates using the Update Notifier in my taskbar (which then launches KDE Control Module - Software Updates), or B.) I attempt to "Refresh" or "Apply all available updates" using the KDE Control Module - Software Updates. I have included a snapshot of the problem as I am a new user and not the most KDE/Linux savvy person. I appreciate your help very much. P.S. If it helps diagnose the problem, I also have problems with the Plasma Dashboard Desktop crashing several times during any session. Thank you very much
This is very old bug. Do you still use update-notifier? 1. If you still have this bug, please report to https://launchpad.net/update-notifier-kde. It is maintained there, not is KDE repo. 2. You should try out apper. It is maintained in KDE and works very well.
This bug has had its resolution changed, but accidentally has been left in NEEDSINFO status. I am thus closing this bug and setting the status as RESOLVED to reflect the resolution change.
