Version: 1.12.0 (using 4.3.00 (KDE 4.3.0), Debian packages) Compiler: cc OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.30-5.slh.1-sidux-686 I'm used to use the convenient text completion mode "dropdown list & automatic" in kmail (and where else it is possible). But in kmail's mail editor this mode now is greyed out and not usable anymore. I don't know what could have caused this and I don't know if this is the first KDE4 version in which this happens because this is the first KDE4 version I'm really *working* with. I tried "automatic" or "dropdown list" as substitute (one is the default but it bugged me that much that I now finally wanted to set it back to my favorite mode: by now I often unintentionally send mails without domain or to wrong addresses because I just type the name and am used to rely on the old behaviour).
In kmail/KDE3 you had only 4 modes: None, Manual, Automatic, Dropdown List All these are still available in kmail/KDE4. Do I miss something ?
Might be, cannot confirm, my laptop with KDE3 installation is out of reach for the next weeks. Apart from that: in kmail/KDE4 there's the option "dropdown list & automatic" but it is greyed out. It is a very convenient mode which I use/d in the browser, filemanager, krunner - and it would be great if you can enable it in kmail address field too so that it is not greyed out anymore and usable.
The part that confused me is the naming: the dropdown list kind of acts like dropdown list & automatic (it also did in KDE3): it automatically selects the first entry when hitting enter. The expected behaviour for a dropdown list without automation would be to select the entry with the down arrow. But in this case the down arrow selects the second entry. My wish goes for a real dropdown list & automatic feature that actually acts like your dropdown list but shows the selected entry in grey letters in the address field until enter is pressed. That's how it works in other applications. The dropdown list without automatic should select the entry only by choosing it with the down arrow (or mouse) and shouldn't preselect anything. I'd prefer if all KDE applications would act the same when choosing the same text completion mode and when all modes would be available for all applications. And options not available shouldn't be shown in the possible options (and not been shown greyed out) to not confuse the user. What do you think?
