Version: (using KDE 4.3.0) OS: Linux Installed from: Fedora RPMs On my system KDE starts up with the splash screen, but when the last icon (the big "K") is reached the system pauses for about 5-10s without any IO or CPU activity. When clicking on the splash-screen during that time, I see a completly initialized plasma, but no applications in the system-tray plasmoid. After that idle time, kde continues to load. It seems during startup, KDE is waiting 5-10s for something, slowing down the whole startup process. I first thought my machine is broken, but I saw the same behaviour with Kubuntu-9.10alpha4 on my gf's laptop.
Summary: It would probably be a good idea, to: 1. Start the system-tray apps earlier 2. Hide the splashscreen sooner, to give the user the impression of a faster start.
Do you have plasmoids which needs a network connection?
Not that I know of. Is there some configuration file listing all plasmoids enabled?
In the Add Widgets list, (which lists *all of them*), if the remove symbol is show in a row, then you have at least one plasmoid of that type.
Ok, I use these plasmoids: - Application Launcher - Battery Monitor - Device Notifier - Digital Clock - Pager - System Tray - Tast Manager I see the same sympthom on a laptop of a friend of mine, but she is running Kubuntu-9.10 beta.
Ok, I don't see this issue anymore with kde-4.4.3
