Description Daniel Duris 2009-08-22 19:49:02 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.4)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

I have this very very weird bug shown every time KDE loads.

While splash screen is showing slowly what parts of the KDE system are initialized - e.g. hard drive icon etc., when Desktop icon is shown (or few moments before), KDE shows screenshot of the last session when the session was ended - e.g. for approximately three seconds screen from the last session is shown (when I had Firefox opened, Firefox is shown as if the screenshot was taken last time).

This "screenshot" (cached screen?) is also shown when Ubuntu changes mdoes from text to graphics once KDE starts - it only flashes for half a second, then when desktop icon is blinking, display shows this "screenshot" for approx. three seconds.

This is quite a bug - first thing, it disrupts my privacy - e.g. I could had personal notes on the screen when ending last session, secondly it destroys splash screen for a while.

PS: I am using ATI/radeon driver, I am not sure if that is related:
glxinfo

server glx version string: 1.2

client glx vendor string: SGI
client glx version string: 1.4

- Are you using Desktop Compositing / effects ? Looks like it could be driver related too.
Comment 2 Martin Flöser 2009-08-23 09:40:48 UTC
That is driver related. It shows that there is uninitialized memory on the graphics card when turning on compositing.

The bug of flashing during start sequence is fixed in KDE 4.3

Yes, I am using Desktop effects/compositing. I had thought it was driver related. I 'llneed to wait for Kubuntu to update to KDE 4.3. Thanks.
