Description mkkot 2009-08-22 12:43:25 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.0)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Unlisted Binary Package

When I start my PC for first time in the morning I have to plug in also a router which gives me Internet access. Unfortunately, my Arch Linux is starting quite faster than router synchronises the Internet access and when it goes to loading KDE, I have to wait until the router is ready because all disc activities stops and nothing happens.

Which plasmoids and software starts at login time on your KDE session?

This could be related to bug 181015, bug 170769.
Thanks

Hi again, sorry for delay, this time mine delay, not kde's ;]

It's a new installation, I have set few things here but wasn't making big changes within desktop yet, so I have only one icon cointainer with home directory and trash bin and on the panel standard applets + logging out button.

Another interesting thing, I also needed to set NO splash screen in systemsettings because of ANOTHER delay (jupp, that's a second bug). This delay takes place independently of the bug reported above. It happens at the moment when the desktop is just shown (desktop = plasmoids + wallper + panel) while starting the environment (please remember: splash screen set to none). And so, desktop is shown, all buttons and icons are operable, I wait about 5 seconds with no disc activities and then in the tray there are appearing: notification icon, kmix icon and klipper, right after that I can hear log in welcome music.

Just checked what will happen when I only log out and log in from kdm (no system reboot) - same delay.

When I had default splash screen set, this delay was appearing on the last splash screen icon. I could click LMB and the desktop appeared fully operable but anyway I had to wait for tray's icons and welcome music. When I didn't click, I had to wait when those tray icons were fully loaded and in that moment splash screen disappeared, playing welcome music.

I hope you can understand someting from this description as I'm not an English Master of Universe ;]

Please feel free to ask about anything if you need.

Whoops, my mistake. Notification icon in the tray is shown without delay, I need to wait for kmix and klipper.

Still present in 4.3.1. I have also discovered another annoying thing: when I plugged off my ethernet cable and started system (so there was no Internet access at all), after KDE launched all the desktop was unusable. So icons didn't respond on hover or clicking, desktop didn't respond on RMB, ...

Do you have a network filesystem mounted (nfs or samba) before you disconnected the network ? If you do, then this is another problem (solid mountpoint of the ~dead~ network share blocking Kickoff and therefore the whole Plasma) bug 184062

Thanks

No, I do not.

I can confirm this also happens to me.

It seems it was my fault this time, not KDE's. Solution is as simple as editing /etc/hosts file:

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost yourhostname
