Description Martin Steigerwald 2009-08-21 20:36:59 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.0)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

Sometimes when I try to send a mail with Kontact the application just hangs after entering the KWallet password. The mail compose window is dimmed a bit as if a dialog window has been opened, but there is none - I just double checked by moving every window on every virtual desktop out of the way. Its currently still hanging and I made an

strace -ff -p 12179 -o Zeit/kontact-strace-2009-08-21.txt

I attach the strace results in a moment.

My current workaround is to kill Kontact and hope that KMail will remember the mail I was about to send. Upto now this has worked, but it is extremely annoying cause the issue does happen quite often - but not everytime.

I have no idea on how to provide further debug information. If you have one, please tell me.

it just select()'s and appears to wait on something. Kontact uses up to 4-6 % of CPU on my IBM ThinkPad T42 with Pentium M 1.8 GHz CPU.

I'm having the same problem; I think it started one month ago and it's really annoying since every second E-Mail gets stuck. If needed I can provide a strace or other debug info too.

Do you still have this with updated kmail versions now?
Comment 6 Johannes Wolter 2010-03-05 00:25:24 UTC
No, I didn't experience kmail/kontact hanging after/whie sending an email any more.
Comment 7 Björn Ruberg 2010-03-05 00:29:35 UTC
May have been a bug in early 4.3? Closing for the moment, just reopen in case the problem returns
