Just so I remember that we have to fix this or at least minimize the annoyance:

When editing a PHP file, everytime the DUChain (and hence the highlighting) gets changed, the whole document gets re-highlighted. Because the old highlight gets removed and then the new one gets added, we see the document unhighlighted for a short period which the user perceives as very annoying flicker.
