Version: SVN (using KDE 4.3.0) Compiler: gcc 4.3.2 OS: Linux Installed from: SuSE RPMs To reproduce: 1. Open several files (tabs). 2. In one of them, press Ctrl+F, type something, press enter. Pressing F3 will find the next one. 3. Switch to some other tab, press F3. It does nothing. If you start searching for some other value here, F3 will search for the new value in this tab, while F3 in the first tab will still search for the old one.
I think this is a duplicate of some other bug/wish in kate, but I can't find it at the moment.
Passing over to Bernhard.

I just discovered a workaround in Kate 3.8.4 of KDE 4.8.4 on Debian Testing. After switching to the second document press CTRL-F to open the search dialog and then CURSOR-DOWN to switch to the previously entered search term which is the one of the first document. However, I'd really appreciate if Kate keeps the search settings across documents like any other editor I know does. I know and sometimes enjoy the search in files dialog, as well, but it's not a complete replacement for the above, because it gives too many results for big projects and only one line of context. But, when programming I often need to search only in files one by one (in the order I expect most to find it) and be able to scroll around the found locations, e.g., to see a whole function body. Nevertheless, Kate is a great editor I won't miss even with this annoyance.
