Description Steffen Schloenvoigt 2009-08-13 10:46:52 UTC
Version:            (using KDE 4.3.0)
OS:                MS Windows
Installed from:    MS Windows

Wether I in kate, kwrite, the desktop (to choose a wallpaper) or any other App, when I click on the "Open File" button or select the action from the menu, the application crashes with:

Die Anweisung in "0x014dde46" verweist auf Speicher in "0x00000000". Der Vorgang "read" konnte nicht auf dem Speicher durchgeführt werden.

Looks like a NullPointer Exception to me. As this seemed to be related to the open file dialog, I tried to toggle "use System File Dialog" in the System Settings. But this had no effect.

Kind regards,
Steffen

thanks for the report,
I guess you use msvc compiler, so please rerun the installer, (do not skip settings), choose winkde.org mirror and update the kdelibs package to the version 4.3.0-1 - and please report if that fixes the problem.

Hi Saro,

thanks for the patch.
I will try it immediately on monday and then report the results here.
Have a nice weekend!

Kind regards,
Steffen

Hi,

I'd like to update using the winkde.org mirror too, but I don't have it in the list. I tried adding the url manually, but after adding http://winkde.org I cannot remove it to fix the path. Moreover, I cannot add another url starting with the same domain name (but with a correct path) : there is an unreadable error message displayed in the top left hand corner of the installer.

And, I can't figure where are the custom mirror URLs stored to manually remove them : after deleting C:\Program Files\KDE, C:\KDE4 (download storage) and cleaning the registry from any KDE occurence, I sill have those mirrors I can't remove ... rather frustrating :)
Comment 4 Gael Beaudoin 2009-08-14 21:07:17 UTC
After several retry, I've managed to clear the mirror list, using vista's file search tool. Anyway, the exact correct mirror to add is this one :

http://www.winkde.org/pub/kde/ports/win32/releases/

Any other URL leads to empty release list.

Thank you for working on KDE on Windows, this is very useful !
Comment 5 Ralf Habacker 2009-08-14 21:13:35 UTC
for the record: the mirror setting is stored into %APPDATA%\kde which is mostly
C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\<user>\Anwendungsdaten\kde

c:> type "%APPDATA%\kde\installer.ini"
[General]
FirstRun=false
mirror=http://www.winkde.org/pub/kde/ports/win32/releases/stable/latest/
proxyMode=1
rootdir=C:\\Programme\\KDE
tempdir=C:\\downloads

Thanks, next time it will be easier !
Comment 7 Patrick Spendrin 2009-08-14 22:29:27 UTC
@Gael: did it work then?
Comment 8 Gael Beaudoin 2009-08-14 23:32:57 UTC
Well, I had several problems :
- [1] konqueror starting but not rendering web pages because of missing plugin
- [2] Kate not wanting to open files
- [3] Kmail not starting because of missing sqlite3.dll

1 and 2 are fixed by installing KDE again with the new mirror, kmail still misses sqlite3.dll.

So well, yes, I'd say I no longer have this bug !

OT : Kopete is now very stable and I'm using it any time I have to use windows. I also like having dolphin. And I'm also thrilled by the speed of KDE applications under windows compared to my beloved Linux ... resizing is shockingly smooth, I've never thought this was possible. Enough digressing ...
Comment 9 Patrick Spendrin 2009-08-15 00:30:56 UTC
@Gael: sorry for the thing with the sqlite dll:
I fixed it on winkde.org-mirror (use the url you found) and restart the installer;
uncheck the 'skip basic settings pages' and then please use 'packager mode';
Keep everything as it is until the final package overview.
In the category win32libs, you can find the sqlite package, install it and kmail should work more or less (please still be *very* careful with it as data loss might happen!).
@Steffen: I will wait until you confirmed that your original problem is fixed now until I close the bug.
Comment 10 Gael Beaudoin 2009-08-15 01:35:40 UTC
Fixed, kmail starts and works, I'm able to browse my work email with an imap account : no crash or bizaarre stuff so far. I'll keep testing and report any issues. Nice having kmail on windows too.

Thanks!

I have the same problem with kate. It crashes as soon as I try to open or save a file. I use the mingw-version.
