Version: (using KDE 4.3.0) Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages a lot of kde apps miss an "report bug" entry (or it is very well hidden), frinst knetworkmanager. i for one use to have always konsole open, so i can use help->report bug ... but that's a major nuissance, since - the list of entries is far to long to be really usable - it contains entries apparently very old an outdated (kde-eclipse? noatun? arts?) - entries are confusing: the names often do not reflect the actual apps' names (systemsettings/kdm has in "System Settings" the name "Login Manager") or do not appear at all (frinst the knetworkmanager plasma widget is not listed)
Could you please split these various issues into different bug reports? Since you mention different problems in different applications, filing different bug reports makes it easier to close them. First of all, it isn't clear if you don't see the Help/Report Bug menu in knetworkmanager itself or in the Plasma widget (I don't have it installed here so I can't test it). Plasmoids usually don't have these menus. If the problem is in the program itself, please file a bug report for it via bugs.kde.org (there's a product for it). Then, the three usability points you've raised could be turned into three separate bug reports against kdelibs/kbugreport. When you've finished, could you please post here so I can close the report? Thanks.
sometimes i really wonder ... the app mentioned (knetworkmanager plasma applet) are purely for illustrational purposes (i always though "frinst" was a strong signal). secondly, "bug reports against kdelibs/kbugreport." -- that's exactly what i am talking about: how am i supposed to know about that? and for "Plasmoids usually don't have these menus.": why not? do they never have bugs? i'll try to split them up, once i got time.
(In reply to comment #2) > sometimes i really wonder ... > the app mentioned (knetworkmanager plasma applet) are purely for illustrational > purposes (i always though "frinst" was a strong signal). If you have several different applications in mind but only mention one, it is difficult to know if the others have the same problem due to the same reasons or not, so it would be nice to either list a few more programs that have that problem or file bug reports about them separately. > secondly, "bug reports against kdelibs/kbugreport." -- that's exactly what i am > talking about: how am i supposed to know about that? That's why there's a bug triaging group: sometimes there's a need for people who know about the products registered, identify duplicates and advise users when it's better to split a report, for example. If there'a usability problem, then the way to go is to file a bug report and/or join the kde-usability mailing list and try to fix the problem :) > and for "Plasmoids usually don't have these menus.": why not? do they never > have bugs? It may be a design decision not to include that menu. Whether it's good or not, it's up for discussion. In this case, you're more than welcome to join the plasma-devel and kde-usability mailing lists so we can try to come up with solutions that work best for most users. > i'll try to split them up, once i got time. Thanks.
BTW, I have recently updated that list to not include outdated products. Regards
Lets see: - Plasma widgets having no "Report Bug" menu: bug 160045. - unusable application combo box: bug 165305. If you find another application that has no possibility to report bugs, file a bug report for that application. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 165305 ***
