Description stephan.schutter 2009-08-07 17:24:49 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.3.0)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

When using VMware Workstation in full screen mode, the task manager stays in front of the screen. That means that it covers the guest OS' task bar and icons limiting its use. This cannot be by design, so it follows that it is a bug. This works correctly in the old KDE and Gnome, therefore it is not a VMware bug.

Are you referring to the taskbar or the whole Plasma panel ? Can you post an screenshot ? Thanks

A screenshot would be nice. Is the window decorated by KWin (does it have the same border as all the other KDE windows)?

Do we know what method VMware uses to try to get on top of the panel? Normal applications go beneath it (by design I think), so how does VMware communicate this to the window manager?

Some of the more advanced features of kwin might be useful here, for instance, if you right click on the VMware app on the task bar on the plasma panel and try "Advanced->Fullscreen" does that help?

I filed this bug back in August... VMware and KDE are at different versions
now... and I have not gone back to re verify. As far as I am concerned you
may close the bug.

Kind regards
Stephan
