Description mahen 2009-08-07 10:06:58 UTC
Version: 1.12.0 (using KDE 4.3.0)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Using (several) IMAP accounts with several folders and subfolders, checking for new emails takes forever (several minutes, versus a few seconds in Evolution or Thunderbird).

Three issues :

1) it checks each folder each time (instead of checking all folders the first time, then checking only the "incoming" folder)
2) more importantly : when checking the status at the bottom of the screen, the same percentage and same folder name remains for a very long time (sometimes, several minutes for the same IMAP folder)
3) I can get (but not necessarily) an warning indicating that I was disconnected from the IMAP server. Not each time but that happens eventually.

Anyway, when being patient enough (within 5 or 10 minutes), I always manage to get the new emails. When using the System monitor, I can clearly see that kmail remains entire minutes without receiving data. Sometimes, it looks like "sawteeth".

Note : I have about 15 IMAP folders but that is not, IMO, the issue, as kmail seems to be checking the very same folder for several minutes before getting to the next ones.

This issue had happened with all KDE 4.x KMail versions. Even maybe with KDE 3.x. Occured with all distros (Arch, Kubuntu, etc.). It doesn't occur with any other mailer (evolution, thunderbird, apple mail...)

It occurs with both connected and disconnected IMAP. With OVH and FREE (French provider) servers.

I had very similar experiences with Kmail in the KDE 3 series, which is one reason I've stayed with Evolution.

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

KMail2 was released in 2011, and the entire code base went through significant changes. We are currently in the process of porting to Qt5 and KF5. It is unlikely that these bugs are still valid in KMail2.

We welcome you to try out KMail 2 with the KDE 4.14 release and give your feedback.

No thanks. I jumped ship to Evolution (still under KDE) years ago.
