Description Stephan Sokolow 2009-08-07 04:49:38 UTC
Version: 0.70.4 (using 4.2.4 (KDE 4.2.4), Gentoo)
Compiler: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc
OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.25-gentoo-r7-20080501

Currently, the OTR crypto plugin defaults to being disabled. Given that it has an opportunistic mode and the well-known fact that most users simply leave their programs on the defaults, enabling opportunistic crypto by default would probably be a better option.

This should only require two changes:
1. Add the OTR plugin to the list of plugins which are enabled by default if found.
2. Extend the OTR plugin's hooking of Kopete so that keys are automatically generated for accounts without them when the accounts are added to Kopete via the wizard or, to enable a proper upgrade/restore-from-backup path, on Kopete startup.

Neither I nor anyone I've worked with has ever had a problem with the opportunistic mode causing problems beyond those experienced with OTR disabled and one might consider OTR's opportunistic mode to be the IM equivalent of VoIP with ZFone.

Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained.

Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
