Version: (using KDE 4.2.98) IMHO mixing tabbar and columns is overkill -- please notice you introduce second tab just for two entries (columns). It means you get 1:2 ratio, in such case the destination elements should be "embedded" directly. IMHO the best solution here would be something similar to folding sections (vide sourceforge BTS and its "comment", "attachment", etc.) ==[+]=Places============= ==[+]=History============ ==[+]=Tags=============== Let's say user clicked in _any_ place within history tab. ==[+]=Places============= ==[-]=History============ /home/joe/holidays /home/joe/summer ==[+]=Tags=============== Advantages: it is possible to see only one section, it is possible to see all sections at once. There is no hidden element (like in current UI) -- no guesses, no surprises. Elements are directly presented. Flexible management of user screen space.
I agree. I added this to my TODO.
Start page has quite evolved over time, though it still has issues: - The thumbnail-size is fixed and does not reflect the chosen size in browse mode - It hides the folder sidebar temporarily in favor of "locations" with a completely different design on the opposite side of the screen - Deleted pics still show up but with a random thumbnail - Though it features all necessary info for a proper history of visited files and folders, accessing it through the startpage is cumbersome compared to the way internet-browsers handle history
The starting screen has Recent Folders and Recent
Oops, wanted to save just new title for the bug. Unfortunately, bugzilla does not allow to edit your post. The bug is valid. Reopening.
> Deleted pics still show up but with a random thumbnail For me, deleted pictures are shown. But not with random thumbnail. They are with document unavailable icon. I am not sure if it is desirable to show them there at all however. Gwenview: 23.07.80
I confirm that the start page should be reworked. The organization scheme of the start page proposed by @Pilichowski still remains relevant today. When opening GwenView, we feel more like we're using a file explorer (accessory image) than using a simple image viewer. What about “dolphin”? > The starting screen has Recent Folders and Recent only if history is enabled in settings. And this makes the start page confusing and overloaded (tab, loaction...) 1) There should be an option (like dolphin) to open Gwenview directly in the same folder before closing it. and-or 2) an option to open Gwenview directly in the default image folder. and-or 3) an option to set default path to Home. we spend too much time clicking before viewing what we use this software for
