Description m.wege 2009-08-02 23:44:49 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.98)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

It should be possible to configure notifications in away, that there is no notification about incoming messages when the specific chatwindow is open, on top and/or active.

Hi there.

Isn't it a matter of going to Settings/Configure Notifications and disabling notifications for "Incoming Message in Active Chat"?
Comment 2 m.wege 2009-08-05 20:56:37 UTC
Ups, I did not know that. Now that I see this, the setting is already set to only give a sound notification, but stil I get also a popup message from system tray. This means you can turn this wish into a bug report. I am running KDE 4.3.0 with Kubuntu packages.

What do the settings for "Incoming Message" look like?

Notifications for incoming messages in the active window don't seem to be working properly with trunk, so I tried to reproduce this report in 4.3.0.

I used the settings you showed in the screenshots, and everything worked OK: when the chat window was closed, a new message made the sound be played, the message be shown in a popup and the taskbar entry was activated; when the chat window with the person was already open and active, it only played the sound.

What happens to you exactly?

I am in a chat, notification of the incomming message with the text pops up at the same time as the message itself appears in the chat window.

But since this originally started as a wish: Am I right, that the Kopete notifications will also be ported to the new notification system for KDE 4.4? In that case I would not mind to close this.

Formally, it isn't actually a bug - you are in a chat window, but the message that is about to appear isn't (yet), so it's an "incoming message", not an "incoming message in the active chat window" (yet). I don't think this is a bug, but it's annoying, specially when the new message tab gets focus and you end up typing half of a message there.

I don't what would change with the new notification system in this case, since I'm guessing Kopete actually sees this as the right behaviour.

Is this still happening?
