Version: (using KDE 4.2.98) OS: Linux Installed from: Ubuntu Packages I usually work with several dolphin windows at the same time which contain several tabs and split windows, so I can comfortably copy/move files without the need to switch between directories and have a better overview. Preview is enabled for all directories. This behaviour of mine worked fine with konqueror filemanager in KDE3 on an old single core cpu. But on my new computer with dual core cpu and KDE4 dolphin and kio_thumbnails render the system unusable after some time, both core usage rates go up to 100%. And they stay this way even when I close dolphin. I have several kio_thumbnails processes even when there are no folders open which require thumbnail creation. Maybe kio_thumbnail goes deep into the directory structure and tries to scan and create all thumbnails recursivly? This oddly only happens after some uptime. Would it be possible to give these processes are lower prioritiy per default and restrict their cpu usage to maybe 50%? So the system stays usable?
Mh, this report could be related to bug 203641, bug 201860, bug 203628 - Do you have directories with too many images on it ? - Do you have the mplayerthumb plugin (thumb for video files) enabled? Thanks
Same here, mplayerthumbs isn't enabled. What's the definition for "too many images"? 500? or 5000? or 50000? My folders usually contain not more than 500 images in their root but might contain a lot of subdirectories with pictures too.
I have the same problem. Quad Q6600 running at 3.0Ghz, all FOUR cores are used at 100% to generate thumbnails in folders with as few as 30-50+ videos (did not try image files). And yes, if I move out of the folder or CLOSE Dolphin, it continues for 10sec or a bit more. Very annoying. From a user's point of view, this function is inefficient. Is the package not installed correctly? I can't tell. Video Previews (MplayerThumbs) are enable in the PREVIEW tab of Dolphin's settings. That Preview check box comes RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX if you install openSUSE 11.2 (it does not with Kubuntu), but it not checked on by default.
