Description rgpublic 2009-08-01 15:40:42 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.2.98)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

When I right-click on the root item of the collection (i.e. to replace the whole playlist) there is an item in the menu called "Delete tracks". After saying yes all files are physically deleted from your disk. This is no problem for me - but it turned out to be a quite serious problem for some not so tech-savvy friends and relatives. Believe it or not - they won't always read what warnings are saying and they confuse clearing the playlist with actually physically deleting tracks. Amarok is basically great for them because they can safely manage their music collection without using Dolphin (I have removed it from their desktop) because they don't understand what a filesystem is or does. IMHO there should be an option in the settings where you can disable all functions which change or delete lots of files at once (i.e. changing metadata of 100 files or sth. like that). All they want to do is edit the meta-data of one file or remove one single file they dont want anymore. At the moment there is too much damage that can be done with a few accidental clicks. Please make Amarok more fool-proof again. Thank you.

This would be a bug, then. Could you please also specify your Amarok version, please?

My version is Amarok 2.1.1. It's not really a bug IMHO. It says "delete tracks" - it asks if I want to delete all those files - and it does what it says ;-)
Perhaps this is useful for some power-users. I only think it's too dangerous to have such a powerful option hidden in the right-click menu of some "harmless" music management application. If I really wanted to erase my whole collection I would do so from Dolphin.

Well, you are right on that point, the actual delete action performs correctly.

Still, this unknown track which actually is the root folder should not be there at all, so that is a bug.
