This could be a Qt4 bug (may be fixed on 4.5.2+). - Can you reproduce the crash at will again ? Thanks

Some of the descriptions of the reporters gave about this crash matches bug 198499 (different backtrace but related situation). I wonder if fixing it would fix this too.... Regards

Hovering over a non-viewable folder (permissions, or I suppose in the midst of being deleted, etc) can reliably reproduce a crash with the same backtrace. For example, hover over the lost+found folder in the root directory of any linux partition. Users cannot normally view the contents of this folder. This will crash Plasma w/ KDE 4.3.0 and Qt 4.5.2.
Regarding that situation I fixed a crash when trying to right click into that "non-viewable" folder. (but I was getting a different backtace). I could never got the original backtrace (may be because I'm using Qt from kde-qt.git ?)

If someone could try reproducing this crash while running plasma in valgrind, and then attach the relevant parts of the output to this bug, it might shed some light on this issue.

More information from bug 210870: - Mouse over network shortcut icon to webdav folder in folderview crashed plasma Some more info. I have a folderview plasmoid on my desktop configured to show the 'network' places. In network I have saved many connections, to ftp folders, sftp folders, smb and webdav folders. Each and every time I move the mouse over either the connection icon for the webdav folder and the connection icon for the smb folder plasma crashes. Moving the mouse over the other connection icons works very well, only webdav and smb protocols give me problems. Thanks.

I can reliably reproduce this on current Kubuntu Karmic (4.3.2), but attempts to get a trace resulted in me having to file a bug agaisnt gdb.
I can reliably reproduce this on current Kubuntu Karmic (4.3.2), but attempts to get a trace resulted in me having to file a bug against gdb.
This is caused by a Kubuntu patch (that is going to be dropped). You can close the KDE bug.
This problem is caused (or at least exposed) by our kubuntu_20_folderview_retry.diff patch which forces folderview to retry listing the directory upon failure. This was to make sure the directory got listed on low-memory systems on the Live CD, but in the case of where folderview has a good reason that listing the directory failed (permissions...) it causes a nice crash by forcing the retry. I have removed this patch in bzr, and this crash should be fixed next upload. We will see how things go for the low-memory systems that this patch was made for during the Kubuntu 9.10 RC -> final release period.

I still see this bug, at least the digital camera related version https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=208720 marked as a duplicate of it, although I am using latest kubuntu version with all updates installed. How can I get rid of this? Thanks in advance, Gandalf
@Gandalf Lechner: are you getting the same backtrace to confirm it is still the same crash ? (the patch causing the bug was removed from the Kubuntu9.10 packages...)
I'm new to creating backtraces, but I tried and got what I paste below. Let me mention that after plasma-desktop
Sorry, the comment was faster than me ;-) I wanted to say that plasma-desktop is restarted automatically shortly after the crash. The camera does not show up in the device notifier (I'm using the automount version), but I can access it via digikam. Here is what I hope is a correct backtrace: Application: Plasma-Arbeitsfläche (kdeinit4), signal: Segmentation fault The current source language is "auto; currently c". Your crash is different. Related to bug 192766 and the DeviceNotifier-automounter widget. If you didn't installed that widget manually complain to Kubuntu, as it is not supported by KDE. Thanks
You were right, removing the automount notifier resolved the problem - thanks a lot.
