Version:           1.5.3 (using KDE 4.2.98)
Compiler:          4.4.0 gcc-4_4-branch revision 149173
OS:                Linux
Installed from:    SuSE RPMs

If the option CityName in kstarsrc has 17 characters or more, the application
crashes at start.

Note that there are already some cities in the database with > 16 chars, like
mine, so a user could also trigger the bug by following the config wizard
normally instead of manually editing kstarsrc.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open "~/.kde4/share/config/kstarsrc" with a text editor
2. Go to section [Location]
3. In the option "CityName=" put a string with 17 chars or more, e.g.
"12345678901234567"
4. Start the app.

Hello David,

I cannot reproduce the bug either with 4.3 or with trunk. Can you still reproduce the bug with 4.3.0? What happens if you starts from a clean kstarsrc file?

Yes, same thing with 4.3.0.

If I delete the file "~/.kde4/share/config/kstarsrc" and start kstars, the config wizard appears and it lets me select my city, in my case, "Castellón de la Plana, España".
Then I can use Kstars normally.

But if I close the program and start again I get the above mentioned backtrace.
So problem may be only when reading the config.

Additionally to the backtrace, I get the following output in konsole:

Thanks for your valuable bug report. This seems to be a problem with the Satellite Library that I temporarily enabled hoping some time to fix things. I'll keep this open, so that we fix it whenever we re-enable it.

Could you please verify that it doesn't crash with the current trunk / stable releases? I can't reproduce this in my version.

I can't reproduce this bug anymore with KStars 1.6.0 from kdeedu svn rev 1029419.

SVN commit 1038950 by khudyakov:

Do not copy ObsName to qth.callsign. Latter has fixed length and if
ObsName string is longer than 16 bytes copying may cause crash.

Initialize qth.callsing to empty string instead. It's not used anywhere
so this is most conservative fix.
