Version: 2.3 (using 4.2.98 (KDE 4.2.98 (KDE 4.3 RC3)), Gentoo) Compiler: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.29-gentoo-r5 Often I'm copying and pasting between tabs, so it'd be really nice if I could just middle-click on the tab where I want the text to go and have the text pasted to that virtual console without even switching tabs (I can then quickly left-click to switch tabs since my hand is already on the mouse if that's what I want to do). Today, I left click, move, middle click, move, left click: select desired tab, move into the console, paste, move to the original tab, select it to return back to where I was. Workaround is simple enough, but it'd be nice to simplify this.
The suggestion sounds sensible and I think it is not hard to implement. Will give it a try but can't promise anything. One potential concern is users who are unaware of this feature (if it is implemented) might accidentally middle click some tab and get confused by that unexpected paste when they switch to that tab later.
This is not ideal flow, considering most tabbed applications treat a middle click as a "close tab" signal. At best having a right click menu that would have a paste-to-tab option.
+1 to middle click as a "close tab"
https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/109571/ was code to have middle click as close. I'm not really sure I like having anything for middle click. If so, it would have to be configurable to multiple options.
Note that Konqueror already treats middle-click-on-tab as paste to that tab, though it also selects that tab. So "close tab" would be inconsistent with other core KDE applications. Pasting would be consistent, though an option not to switch on middle click would be nice, even if its default were the same as Konqueror for consistency.
What about Dolphin? Icon-Only Task Manager option? Mozilla Firefox? If you want to paste - you have all window area, not only tab, right? (In reply to comment #6) > What about Dolphin? Icon-Only Task Manager option? Mozilla Firefox? If you > want to paste - you have all window area, not only tab, right? Dolphin - can you middle click in the window area? Not that I'm aware - it doesn't do anything. Task manager - not even sure what that is. Firefox - not a KDE application. What non-KDE applications do should be of less interest than what KDE applications do. Not no interest, but less interest. (Also, Firefox doesn't allow a middle click inside the window to paste the URL to that window, so it doesn't have any other behaviour for middle click to emulate, much like Dolphin.) All window area - no, the original request came in for clicking on a tab *that is _NOT_ at the foreground*. So I have three tabs, I'm looking at the console for tab 1, I swipe some text, and want to paste it to tab 2. Konqueror: I'm looking at tab 1, swipe some text, and want to set tab 2 to that URL. Both of those cases, I can middle click on the tab I want to affect, and have the same effect as if I had left-clicked on the tab first and then middle-clicked into the window. Or, I could if this request were fulfilled for Konsole. I can already do that for Konqueror. And I'd argue that it's much more useful for Konsole than Konqueror.
There doesn't seem be a consensus and there's been no activity in 10 years. If anyone has strong opinions about this, feel free to reopen.
