Version:           0.70.4 (using 4.2.4 (KDE 4.2.4), 4.2.4-2.fc11 Fedora)
Compiler:          gcc
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.29.6-213.fc11.i586

I guess this is related to #197104 because since it was fixed kopete doesn't show yahoo contact photos anymore. I'm running version 0.70.4 from fedora package kdenetwork-4.2.4-4.fc11.i586. The previous version worked fined (before yahoo changed their protocol). My contacts see my buddy icon just fine, so this gets updated. 
.kde/share/apps/kopete/avatars/User/ contains a png with my buddy icon
and  so is.kde/share/apps/kopete/yahoopictures/

This was recently fixed for KDE 4.4
