Description Moritz Moeller-Herrmann 2009-07-27 00:16:33 UTC
Version: 4.3 (using 4.2.96 (KDE 4.2.96 (KDE 4.3 RC2)), Debian packages)
Compiler: cc
OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.30-3.slh.1-sidux-amd64

I used kaddressbook from KDE 4.3rc2 (Debian experimental packages)

I have a rather large kaddressbook database which I have used for ages. There are many duplicate entries.

I have now tried to merge two contacts, by marking them and then choosing edit - merge contacts:

First effect - kaddressbook freezes - window not updated, no reaction on my fast PC for about a minute or two

Second effect - kaddressbook returns with a dialog box "unknown error"

Third effect - BOTH ADDRESSES WITH VALUABLE CONTACT DATA WERE DELETED!!!

This is a show-stopper for KDE-4.3 IMHO (unless this is fixed in KDE-4.3rc3 of course).

I have tried three times - same effect.

Can you reproduce? If not, please let me know what config files and data you need.

The development of the old KAddressBook will be discontinued for KDE 4.4.
Since the new application has the same name, but a completly new code base we close all bug reports against the old version and ask the submitters to resend there reports against the new product.

I am sorry, but I strongly disagrree- this bug should be fixed ASAP in the KDE-4.3 series - it deletes data.

Please show a little more concern for users - also I reported this bug less than a week ago and feel it is disappointing it was not adressed before KDE-4.3 was released. Losing valuable contact data is not nice.
