Description Michael Sadick 2009-07-26 19:00:12 UTC
Application that crashed: plasma-desktop
Version of the application: 0.3
KDE Version: 4.2.98 (KDE 4.2.98 (KDE 4.3 RC3)) "release 146"
Qt Version: 4.5.2
Operating System: Linux 2.6.27.25-0.1-default x86_64
Distribution: "openSUSE 11.1 (x86_64)"

What I was doing when the application crashed:
After updating to the most recent build of KDE 4.3 RC3 on openSUSE 11.1, every time i log into KDE, Plasma will crash. Upon trying to restart Plasma, it will crash again. Tried removing all files beginning with plasma* in config directory to allow KDE to recreate... same problem.

More info: Originally the networkmanager-kde4 package was a plasmoid. When updating I noticed the plasmoid was replaced by a big X, so when I went back to the package manager, I noticed a new package called plasmoid-networkmanager. I added this and it restored the plasmoid, but that is when the crashing began.

I then logged into Fluxbox to see if I could re-update my packages, when I noticed (unexpectedly, since I had removed KNetworkmanager KDE 3) that KNetworkManager was running in the systray. I then realized that the networkmanager-kde4 package replaced the plasmoid with a systray icon, so I removed the plasmoid-networkmanager and am now able to log into KDE 4 again.

The crash is being tracked at bug 198522. As you can see at bug 198522 comment 5, the code is not yet finished so it will not be stable right now.
Thanks

Comment 3 Will Stephenson 2009-07-27 08:40:24 UTC
I've masked the unstable plasmoid code with a dummy applet that directs the user to use KDE 4 knetworkmanager for now.
